Tell us about your family and your accomplishments.
- My name is Iris Merritt. I was born April 24, 1941 in Colquitt County Georgia to the late Wesley and Annie Lee Freeman.
- I got married on October 3, 1961, and we moved to Vero Beach, Florida. We had four children: Brenda, Janice, Obie Jr., and Elnora.
- We moved to Miami in 1969, and my husband and I were divorced in November 26, 1973.
- I retired frm work on June 29, 2006. Afterward, Imoved back to Georga, and I am a retired Physicl Therapy Assisstant.
Do you visit a senior center?
Yes. Candler County Senior Center.
How long have you been attending the center? What made you start going to the center?
Two years. To have a place to go and meet people.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy at the center
The discussions with the people, exercise, games, outings, and more. I just love it there.
How has the center helped you Age Well and Live Well?
The center teaches you about keeping your body and mind healthy, to eat well, and to eat healthy food to have a healthy body.
Do you volunteer at your senior center or at other community organizations?
Yes. When I can, I do what they want me to do and help when I can.
What advice would you give to young people today on how to live a good long life?
To exercise their body and mind to have a good long life. Stay in school, and always mind their elders.
